Facts and figures

  •  Established in 1911 as ”°Hangzhou Business School”± 

  •  Renamed in 1980 as ”°Hangzhou Institute of Commerce”±

  •  Renamed in 2004 as ”°Zhejiang Gongshang University”±

  •  Student populations: 26,000 students, including 1000 international students

  •  Library collection: 2.5 million books, 3000 journals & newspapers, over 21,000 digital journals  

  •  Total floor-space: 956,000 square meters, including two libraries (over 55,000 m2), classroom and office buildings (428,000 m2), and dorms (413,000 m2), gyms (46,000 m2)

  •  Assets: 1.81 billion RMB

  •  Equipments: 2.62 billion RMB, including 9000 computers for teaching, multi-media space with 41,888 seat capacity.

  •  Ranked as "Grade A" university by Ministry of Education in 2007

  • In 2008, won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award - "Key Technology for Storage and Processing Capacity of Major Perishable and Browning Characteristic Fruits in the South"

  • In 2009, it was approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology as the "Innovation Team for Aquatic Products Processing Industry" of the Zhejiang Provincial Key Innovation 

  • In 2011, it was approved as a joint key laboratory for research on aquatic product processing technology in Zhejiang Province
  • 2012: Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences Zhejiang Gongshang University Joint Institute of Food Nutrition Sciences was established

  • In September 2013, the Xiasha Building (Beinmei Building) of the college was officially opened, and the administrative body of the college was relocated to the new building for office work

  • October 2013: Approved as the second unit of Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Fruit and Vegetable Preservation and Processing Technology Research

  • February 2014: Food Science and Engineering was awarded the top priority first level discipline in Zhejiang Province during the 12th Five Year Plan period

  • In June 2014, the Food Engineering and Quality Safety Experimental Teaching Center was awarded the "Twelfth Five Year Plan" Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Key Construction)

  • In September 2014, the innovation and practice of the "integration of industry and commerce" talent training model for food majors won the first prize for teaching achievements in Zhejiang Province

  • In September 2014, the Food Science and Engineering major was awarded the construction project of emerging characteristic majors in ordinary universities in Zhejiang Province during the 12th Five Year Plan period

  • In October 2014, we were awarded the first batch of national pilot projects for the reform of the cultivation mode of outstanding agricultural and forestry talents (food)

  • In January 2015, the Food Engineering and Quality Safety Experimental Teaching Center was approved as a national level experimental teaching demonstration center

  • In June 2015, the Modern Food Safety and Nutrition Collaborative Innovation Center was approved as the "2011 Collaborative Innovation Center" in Zhejiang Province

  • January 2016: Food Science and Engineering was awarded the first-class discipline (Class A) in Zhejiang Province

  • May 2016: Food Science (belonging to the Agricultural Science category) entered the top 1% of global ESI rankings

  • In July 2016, the Food Science and Engineering major was certified by the International Food Science and Technology Alliance

  • November 2016: Won the gold medal in the 2016 "Creating Youth" National College Student Innovation Competition

  • In November 2016, the LMWZ Food Science and Nutrition Research Alliance was established

  • December 2016: Food Science and Engineering was awarded the "13th Five Year Plan" for the construction of advantageous majors in Zhejiang Province's universities

  • In March 2017, Zhu Beiwei was appointed as a "Double Appointed Academician" of our university

  • In April 2017, the Food Quality and Safety major was awarded the "Thirteenth Five Year Plan" for the construction of characteristic majors in Zhejiang Province's universities

  • October 2017: Approved as the Zhejiang Province International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for "Food Nutrition and Functional Food"

  • In November 2017, an international conference titled "Food Science and Nutrition Plus Alliance - Food Industry Forum" was held

  • In March 2018, the second level discipline of doctoral degree authorization (Food Science) was added to the first level discipline (Food Science and Engineering)

  • September 2018: Approved for Zhejiang Engineering Laboratory of Functional Food Manufacturing”°

  • In December 2018, the Food Quality and Safety program was certified by the International Food Technology Alliance

  • December 2018: Approved as the "National Center for Functional Fermented Food Digestion and Nutrition Evaluation"

  • In April 2019, our university officially signed a joint undergraduate and graduate training agreement with the University of Leeds in the food industry

  • October 2019: Convened the International Conference on Food Science and Nutrition - Frontier Forum of Disciplines

  • October 2019: Establishment of the International Postdoctoral Innovation Center for Food Science and Nutrition

  • December 2019: Food Science and Engineering was selected as a first-class undergraduate major construction site in Zhejiang Province
  • December 2019: Food Quality and Safety Major was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site

  • In December 2019, "Key Technologies for Targeted Screening and Industrialized Application of Functional Lactic Acid Bacteria" won the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award

  • In June 2020, the Food Science and Engineering major passed the Engineering Education Professional Certification of the Ministry of Education

  • September 2020: Approved for the Ministry of Education's New Agricultural Science Research and Reform Practice Project

  • April 2021: Approved Food Function and Nutrition Health Discipline Innovation Introduction Base (National "111" Introduction Base)
  • November 2021: Joined the Finland China Food and Health Network (FCFH)

  • June 2022: The Food Science and Engineering major was approved as a national first-class professional construction site under the Double 10000 Plan

  • In December 2022, the "Zhejiang UK Food Sensory Science Joint Laboratory" was recognized by the International Joint Laboratory of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology

  • December 2022: The food discipline was selected as a first-class discipline in the provincial "14th Five Year Plan" Class A
